YOUR SATURDAY SEVEN - Week 24

Compiled by: Rob Martinez, October 1, 2022

Your Saturday Seven is a hand-selection of seven articles from this week that will hopefully be a blessing to you. You can see more past articles here. Note: I do not necessarily fully endorse or agree with all content posted.

1. FIVE UNEXPECTED REASONS EVERY LEADER SHOULD BE A READER.

By: Carey Nieuwhof, 9.28 / CN

“A leader should never be caught off guard by the question, “What are you reading?” And they should always have an answer. After all, the benefits of being a lifelong learner and reader are incalculable.”

2. WHAT ABOUT THOSE WHO HAVE NEVER HEARD?

By: Alan Pastian, 9.28 / Outreach Magazine

“Everyone who has ever lived has the evidence that there is a God. These major revelations will carry and confirm God’s existence, and God can use these to bring salvation. This may happen through dreams, missionary encounters, the internet, etc. The question is not how will God answer those who have not heard, but instead, what will you do with the truth you have heard?”

3. WHAT’S IN A NAME? THE IMPORTANCE OF VERITAS.

By: Mike Lester, 9.14 / Veritas Baptist

“So, the next time you see that name Veritas, take a moment and give thanks for truth. It is what brings freedom. In a day of relativism, more so than ever before, we remain committed to this principle: truth matters. We exist to train men and women who know this truth, who share this truth, and apply this truth in their own personal lives. Together, a growing number of people are joining together to “buy the truth and sell it not.”

4. SPURGEON THE SENDING PASTOR.

By: Geoff Chang, 9.27 / The Spurgeon Center

“Week after week, Spurgeon confronted his congregation with a big vision of God. God’s glory as revealed in Jesus Christ deserved not only the praise of English-speaking people but people from every tribe, tongue, and nation. Not only that, but Spurgeon showed from Scripture that the day is coming when all nations will bow in worship before God.”

5. MEME-ING OURSELVES TO DEATH.

By: Peter Biles, 9.28 / TGC

“Too much irony can distance us from the gravitas of living in God’s redemptive drama. Sarcasm can blind us to the sacred. With clearer, less cynical eyes to see God’s creation, we might even start to see, along with Frodo at the end of The Return of the King, the heavenly end for which we were created: “The grey rain-curtain turned all to silver glass and was rolled back, and he beheld white shores and beyond them a far green country under a swift sunrise.”

6. WE NEED MORE MEN ON THE MISSION FIELD.

By: Paul Akin, 9.29 / TGC

“The absence of men on the mission field has been a reality for generations. This isn’t an issue that will be solved overnight. But it’s an issue worth addressing. Just as women have a vital role to play on the mission field, there’s much work to be done that calls for qualified, godly, and courageous men.”

7. WHO WROTE HEBREWS? WHY IT MAY NOT BE PAUL.

By: Lexam Press, 9.24 / Logos

“All the theories are guesses, though some are fascinating and alluring to be sure. We don’t really know who wrote Hebrews. No theory of authorship has won the day and for good reason, for the answer to our quest lies outside the domain of historical knowledge.”
